The Incredible Unknown India
by Sara Couper
In the exotic country of India beauty, spirituality, culture and
adventure await all travelers. Whether you are a four star
connoisseur or a hostel junkie, India is the perfect country for a
vacation off the beaten path. Bordering the Arabian Sea and the
Bay of Bengal, with ice fields over 6000 meters high, the pounding
heat of the desert landscape and the majestic beauty of the
Himalayas, India has every adventure to offer. In fact it may be the
only South Asian country with skiing, scuba diving and safaris
available at the same time.
However, it is not just the beauty and adventure that nature
provides that makes India an attractive destination. Dating back at
least 5000 years, the Indian civilization and classic Indian culture are
some of the oldest in the world. Many of the ancient traditions are www.incredibleindia.org
still apparent in India today and are quickly becoming popular around the world. The spiritual concepts of meditation and yoga have become very well known in the Western world.
Spirituality, mixed with ancient traditions and healing methods give a sense of true Indian mysticism. As more people move away from Western medicine, they are turning to the Indian approach that illness is the result of disharmony and unbalance between the individual and his/her environment. Traditional healing methods, such as aromatherapy, magnetotherapy and acupressure are available throughout India.
To gain a true feel for the depth of Indian culture and tradition, art galleries and museums hold the key. Artwork, textiles, tribal art, pottery and architecture found in these galleries take the visitor on a journey through the history of India. For those who want to experience the culture first hand, fairs and festivals can be found year round. Integral parts of Indian culture, these events celebrate the vitality of the country while showcasing their customs and traditions. On any day of the year there is a celebration of some sort in one part of the country connecting the people to their environment and society.
